Accomplishments of the NWSADV
·Sponsored two domestic violence conferences at Harper College. Both professional and the general community were invited. Attendance was 172 in 2002 and 137 in 2003. |
·Partnered with Safe from the Start for a Hyatt domestic violence conference in 2004 that focused on the safety of children and law enforcement. |
·Collaborated with the Family Violence Coordinating Council in 2004 and 2005 on conferences at Harper. Presentations by group members under the aegis of the Alliance: |
·The North Suburban Library Association with materials for local libraries. |
·Northwest Suburban Municipal Conference with an award to Schaumburg PD’s DVRT program. |
·Elder Abuse conferences - Northwest Suburban Bar Association - Four local faith congregations - Barrington Professional Women’s’ Club - Church Women United - North/Northwest Police Chiefs Association - ZONTA - Mount Prospect Interfaith Council - North Suburban Juvenile Officer’s Association - Oakton Community College. ·Schaumburg Rotary Convened two meetings with staff from the State’s Attorney’s office domestic violence specialists. |
·Developed a Speakers’ Bureau with presentations from Alliance members. |
·Organized municipalities to recognize October a Domestic Violence Awareness month. |
·Designed business sized Order of Protection information cards in Spanish and English that were distributed to local social services agencies, police chiefs, local university student activity offices, and PADS sites. |
·Compiled a packet that included a community activity sheet, a list of video resources, a speakers’ bureau with topics and Order of Protection cards that was distributed to all mayors, police chiefs, police social workers, municipalities and townships and the Elk Grove Interfaith committee members. |
·Developed a Northwest Suburban domestic violence Resource Sheet in Spanish and English for distribution at conferences, in mailings and through Alliance agencies. |
·Distributed the Resource Sheet to all physicians’ offices managers whose staff practices through Northwest Community Healthcare, Alexian Brothers Medical Center and St. Alexis. |
·Designed a card for resources for batterers that is test piloted by Rolling Meadows Police Department. |
·Provided the Il Department of Labor lists of employers in Hanover, Palatine and Rolling Meadows to contact for workshops about VESSA. |
·Supported the activities and funding to establish of WINGS, INC., the only domestic violence emergency shelter in the Northwest suburbs. |
·Gathered a list of attorneys who are good representatives of women in contested custody cases. |
·Designed a display board to be used by all members for events of members. |
·Partnered with the Cook County judicial offices to establish local Family Violence Coordinating Council for the Third Municipal Court. Members chair all committees. |
·Collaborated with the Illinois Coalition against Domestic Violence to write SB0098, which asked court personnel, who worked in family law area to have a minimum of three hours training in domestic violence. |
·Collaborated with the ICADV and four other legislators to write bill SB2596 that would mandate that the “best interest of the child” relating to custody and parenting matters would include past convictions for domestic violence. And that joint mediation not be required if there had been a history of domestic violence within the relationship. |
·Collaborated to pass SB 2162 that limits sexually violent perpetrators from visitation without the permission of the child’s guardian. |
·Chair sponsored and passed public acts 96-0688 and 96-0632 in Aug. 2009 Public Act 96-0282 effective. |
·Cyberstalking legislation passed 96-0246, and law is effective as of Jan 2010. Ø Disseminated information on domestic violence to hairstylists and salons in the northwest suburbs. |
·Held resource fairs for the community at Northwest Community Hospital and the Palatine Opportunity Center. |
·Secured a grant in 2007 to launch and support the Men’s Initiative project including the development of an educational DVD, brochures, newspaper ads, posters, and speaker tool kits. Hosted community leadership breakfast. –Idea that all men can take a positive active role in ending violence. |
·Hosted DV luncheon featuring Vicki Smith, Executive Director, Illinois Coalition against Domestic Violence. |
·Received Funding to continue Men’s Initiative Program and other Alliance Projects from Schaumburg- Hoffman Rotary May 2009 |
·NWSADV partnered with WINGS to provide candle light vigils for Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2009 |
·Developed and launched new website in 2009-2010 to provide assistance and education on domestic violence. www.endallabuse.org |
·Redesigned our organization brochure and Men’s Initiative Brochure. |

·Oct. 2010 Sixteen municipalities partnered with the Alliance by issuing a proclamation recognizing domestic violence awareness month. |
·Oct. 2010 Developed Community Schedule for Domestic Violence Awareness Month for Northwest Suburbs. Opportunity for Roosevelt Partnership. |
·Oct. 2012 Eleven municipalities partnered with the Alliance by issuing a proclamation recognizing domestic violence awareness month. |
